The preventable death of a woman from complications of pregnancy and childbirth is a tragedy with devastating effects on families, communities and nations. Although there has been impressive progress in reducing these deaths in recent decades, the world is not on track to meet the Millennium Development Goal target of a 75% reduction in the maternal mortality rate by 2015.
Applying our scientific and business expertise to the challenge, MSD, through MSD for Mothers, is bringing the next generation of solutions to end preventable deaths - for the long term. We are investing in bold initiatives that have a high potential for lasting impact, with a focus on regions and communities where the problem is particularly severe.
