MSD Animal Health is a leading veterinary pharmaceutical supplier in Ireland, providing a full range of vaccines and pharmaceutical products for cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats, horses, poultry and aquaculture. MSD in Ballydine was established in 1976 near Clonmel in Co. Tipperary, where the operation now employs 450 people. In recent years, the plant has expanded its business of producing active pharmaceutical ingredients for use by Merck & Co., Inc. subsidiaries throughout the world to include the development of late stage clinical API. A new Formulation R&D and Manufacturing Facility has been built on the existing site to support MSD's initiative to bring new medicines to market more effectively. The facility will develop innovative methods for the formulation of new products from pilot to commercial scale and supply tablets for late stage clinical trials, launch and early stage supply. The plant exports to over 30 countries with main markets being Europe, USA and Japan.

The Brinny site was established in Ireland in 1980 and currently employs over 500 people. Brinny specialises in the fermentation, purification and sterile filling of Biotech products including two of the company's most successful treatments for hepatitis C and rheumatoid arthritis. The site also produces new products which are used at a global level in clinical studies. In addition Brinny has a European leadership role with regard to Quality and hosts a range of Global Support Services including IT and Customer Services & Planning and Analytical Testing. Products produced in Brinny earn in excess of €2 billion sales per year for the company and are exported to 90 countries across the globe. Located 16 miles from Cork City the Brinny facility is committed to the local community. The company actively supports local business, sports clubs and education through a variety of programmes. The company is currently investing €28.6 million in the upgrading of technology and production facilities on site.

Established in 2007, Carlow is our first stand-alone human vaccine facility. Located on the edge of the town, it's a state of the art, 200,000 sq ft biologics operation in which we have invested €220 million. There are currently 117 employees working at the facility. When fully operational we expect to employ 170 people at Carlow. Operations are due to start in early 2011, from which point we'll begin to formulate and fill vaccines and biologic products which could ultimately be used by millions of people across the world.

In May 2010 we announced the establishment of our first EMEA SBS Centre in Dublin. The establishment of this EMEA SBS Centre is part of MSD's strategy to create a multi-functional Shared Business Services organisation to support MSD at a regional level. Regional SBS Centres have already been established for North America and Latin America (Nth Carolina) and Asia Pacific (Singapore). The EMEA SBS Centre will initially support business transactions in the areas of Finance, Accounting and Managed Services such as travel and meetings and is expected to employ up to 150 people at it's location in Dublin.

It employs over 120 people with expertise in medicine, clinical research, regulatory affairs, sales, marketing, public affairs, market research, administration, human resources and IT. Approximately half its people are based in the field, working directly with healthcare professionals throughout the country. Initially established in 1961 as Loftus Bryan Chemicals, the site was acquired by Schering-Plough in 1980 to support the development and supply of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API's) for global markets. Today, the site supports net sales of close to €1.5 Billion, supplying over 10 API's, primarily in fields of Respiratory Care, Infectious Disease and Cardiovascular medicine. API's manufactured in Rathdrum are exported to 20 countries around the world for formulation to the final dosage form. The company has a long and proud heritage in Wicklow, with close links to many community initiatives. The site was recognised with both National and European awards - by PCI and CEFIC, under their Responsible Care programs, for it's work in relation to Community Engagement.

Our Swords facility was established in 1990 and now employs over 500 people. The main activities on site relate to the manufacture of a range of women's health products. More recently, investments have been made to accommodate products in new therapeutic areas such as anaesthesiology and mental health.
