The Plant has been officially recognised for the excellence of its environmental management systems and its commitment to clean production, receiving both the Eolas Good Environmental Management Award and the Forbairt Clean Technology Award.

In 2006, the plant received the Sustainable Energy Ireland Award for Energy Awareness Campaign and the PharmaChemical Ireland Award for Environmental Communications Programme

As part of the corporate Champions for the Environment programme, the plant has been able to support local environmental projects in which our employees are involved. In 2006, Ardfinnan primary school was the recipient of the award. Their "Happy Habitat" project comprised an integrated pro-education environmental plan which linked numerous local organisations and had Merck employee involvment as a core element.
