NEIGHBOUR OF CHOICE PROGRAMME

Laura Lynn House build multi-sensory room with the help of MSD's Neighbour of Choice Programme

The Merck Company Foundation and the Merck Office of Corporate Philanthropy established the Neighbour of Choice Programme in the late 1990's in order to fund local projects which address critical community needs. In 2011 through this programme, MSD will be providing funding for a multi-sensory room at the new Children's Sunshine Home / LauraLynn House in Leopardstown.

The Children's Sunshine Home has been caring for chronically ill children since 1925. In September 2010 they began constructing the first hospice for chronically ill children in Ireland which will be called 'The Laura Lynn House' and is located within walking distance of two of MSD's locations in Dublin, the Human Health office and the EMEA Shared Business Services office. The grant will fund the full kit out of the multi-sensory room for Laura Lynn House. A multi-sensory room is a specially designed environment that provides a variety of sensory experiences for relaxation, therapy, learning and fund for children with needs. The bespoke room will greatly enhance the quality of these children's lives who suffer from a range of conditions including muscular dystrophy, brittle bones and cerebral palsy.
